Community Resources

A community-curated library of designer tools, videos, spreadsheets, articles, and more — submitted and vouched for by fellow game designers.

Overview

Community Resources is a publicly browseable library of external links — videos, PDFs, spreadsheets, web tools, articles, courses, books, and more — that any registered designer can submit. Resources are community-vetted through a vouching system before they go live, so the quality stays high.

Browsing & Filtering

The main Community Resources page shows all approved resources in a searchable, filterable grid. No login required.

Sidebar Filters

  • Search — Full-text search across resource titles and descriptions.
  • Type — Filter to a specific resource category (Video, PDF, Spreadsheet, etc.).
  • Tags — Click coloured tag pills to filter by topic (e.g. "playtesting", "game theory"). Click again to deselect.
  • Sort — Order by Most Vouched (default), Newest, or Oldest.

Resource Cards

Each card shows:

  • Resource type icon and label
  • Title linking directly to the external resource (opens in a new tab)
  • Short description
  • Colour-coded topic tags
  • Submitter name and time since submission
  • Vouch count (and a button to vouch if you're signed in)

Tip: Filters stack — you can search for "probability" while filtering by type "Spreadsheet" to find spreadsheet-based probability tools. Use Clear Filters to reset everything at once.

Resource Types

Every resource is tagged with one of the following types. This helps designers quickly find the format they're looking for.

Video

YouTube tutorials, conference talks, design breakdowns, and recorded lectures.

PDF / Document

Downloadable guides, rulebooks, frameworks, and reference documents.

Spreadsheet

Google Sheets or Excel files for cost tracking, probability math, balance modelling, and similar tools.

Web Tool

Browser-based apps and interactive tools for design, prototyping, or analysis.

Article / Blog

Written guides, blog posts, and essays on game design topics.

Course / Lecture

Structured multi-part learning content — online courses, lecture series, or workshop recordings.

Book / Guide

Full-length books, extended guides, and comprehensive references available online.

Manufacturer

Print-and-play manufacturers, component suppliers, printing services, and game production companies.

Other

Anything that doesn't fit neatly into the above — communities, forums, podcasts, templates, etc.

Submitting a Resource

Anyone with a free account can submit a resource. Submissions immediately appear in the Awaiting Community Vouches section at the bottom of the page while they wait to be vetted.

How to Submit

  1. Sign in to your account (or create a free one)
  2. Click Submit a Resource in the top-right of the Community Resources page
  3. Fill in the form fields below
  4. Click Submit Resource

Submission Form Fields

Title

The name of the resource. Keep it concise and descriptive. Max 200 characters.

URL

The full link to the resource. Must be a valid URL. Links are not modified — they go directly to whatever you submit.

Description

A brief explanation of what this resource is and why it's useful for game designers. Max 1,000 characters. Good descriptions get more vouches.

Type

Pick the category that best describes the format. See Resource Types above for descriptions of each option.

Tags

Optional. Select up to 5 tags to help people find your submission. Tags are admin-curated and displayed as colour-coded pills. If no relevant tag exists, leave this blank — admins can tag during review.

After submitting: Your resource appears immediately in the "Awaiting Community Vouches" section. It will not show in the main approved grid until it reaches the vouch threshold and passes admin review. You can still see it and other people can vouch for it right away.

The Vouch System

Instead of a simple upvote, Community Resources uses vouches — a way for designers to signal "I've seen this and it's legitimate and useful." This keeps low-quality or spammy links from reaching the main library.

How Vouching Works

  • Any signed-in user can vouch for a pending resource
  • Each user can give one vouch per resource
  • You can remove your vouch by clicking the button again — it toggles
  • The vouch count is displayed on every card
  • Vouching on already-approved resources simply tracks community endorsement — it doesn't affect their visibility

The Vouch Progress Bar

Pending resource cards show a progress bar filling toward the vouch threshold. Once a resource reaches 5 vouches:

  • Its status changes to Awaiting Admin Review
  • The vouch button is hidden (no more votes needed)
  • The progress bar turns orange to show it's ready for review
  • An admin will approve or reject it shortly

Vouch responsibly: Only vouch for resources you've actually visited and believe are genuinely useful to game designers. The vouch system works because the community keeps it honest.

How Moderation Works

Resources go through a two-step pipeline: community vouching then admin review. This means no single person (admin or submitter) controls what gets into the library.

1. Pending Vouches

Submitted and visible in the "Awaiting Community Vouches" section. Anyone signed in can vouch.

2. Awaiting Admin Review

Reached 5 vouches. An admin will check the link, content quality, and relevance.

✓ Approved

Appears in the main resource grid for all visitors.

✗ Rejected

Removed from public view. Rejected resources cannot be vouched.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • Link is broken or no longer accessible
  • Content is not relevant to tabletop or board game design
  • Duplicate of an already-approved resource
  • Promotional / spam content with no genuine educational value
  • Inappropriate or harmful content

If your submission was rejected and you believe it was a mistake, you can re-submit with a clearer description that explains its relevance to game design.
