Storage Add-on

Add extra file storage to any account, how billing works, and what happens when you cancel.

Storage Add-on

Need more room for artwork, exports, and print files? Storage Add-ons add extra space to your account in three sizes, work on both Free and Pro accounts, bill through the same Stripe checkout as everything else, and can be canceled whenever you like. The bigger tiers cost less per gigabyte, and tiers stack: you can hold more than one at once and their space adds together.

Add-on Price Per GB
+5 GB $2.50 / month $0.50
+10 GB $5.00 / month $0.50
+20 GB $7.50 / month $0.375 (best value)

How your storage limit works

Your total limit is the sum of everything that grants you space:

Source Amount
Free plan base 100 MB
Pro plan base 1 GB
Onboarding quest rewards varies (see Onboarding Quests)
Storage Add-ons +5, +10, or +20 GB each, while active

Everything you store counts against that one shared pool: images in My Files, component artwork, generated PDFs and CSVs, Print & Play files, and project backups.

Adding storage

  1. Open Account Settings and pick Storage from the sidebar (or follow any "Get more storage" link around the app).
  2. The Storage section shows your current usage, your limit, and where that limit comes from.
  3. Click Upgrade Storage and complete the Stripe checkout.

The extra space is available the moment checkout completes. You'll get a confirmation email, a receipt for each monthly payment, and a reminder before each renewal. Each add-on is its own subscription: buy the size you need now and add another tier later if you outgrow it.

Running low

When you pass 80% of your limit, the storage bars in My Files and on your dashboard turn amber and offer a shortcut to add more space. At 100%, uploads are blocked: any upload attempt tells you exactly how much space is left and how much the file needs. Being full doesn't delete anything by itself; you simply can't add more until you free space or raise the limit. The exception is when your limit shrinks, by canceling an add-on or downgrading from Pro to Free: if you stay over your reduced limit past the grace period below, your newest files are removed automatically until you're back under it.

Canceling the add-on

Cancel any time from Account Settings → Storage → Cancel Add-on. Here's the exact timeline of what happens:

  1. Until the end of your paid billing period: nothing changes. You keep the full space you paid for. (Canceling one add-on doesn't touch any others you still have.)
  2. When the paid period ends: your limit drops back to your base amount. If you're under that limit, that's the end of it, nothing else happens.
  3. If you're over your new limit: a 14-day grace period begins, and you'll get an email with the exact deadline. During grace:
    • All your files stay available and downloadable.
    • Your projects keep working normally.
    • New uploads are blocked while you're over the limit.
    • Account Settings shows a countdown and how far over you are.
  4. After the grace period: if you're still over the limit, your newest files are deleted automatically, one at a time, until your account is back under it. Older files are kept in preference to newer ones, and only as much is removed as needed.

Automatic cleanup is a last resort and never a surprise: it can't happen before the grace period fully ends, and your subscriptions are re-checked live with Stripe right before anything is removed. Space you're still paying for is never touched: your plan's base storage, quest bonuses, and any other add-ons you keep all count toward your limit, and only files above that total are removed. Re-adding enough storage to cover your usage before the deadline prevents deletion entirely; adding a smaller tier raises the line and protects that much more.

If a deleted file was in use as component artwork, the component simply shows no image afterward instead of a broken link.

If a payment fails

Your storage doesn't vanish on a failed charge. Stripe retries the payment automatically and emails you a link to update your card; your extra space stays active during the retry window. Storage only begins the cancellation timeline above if the payment ultimately can't be collected.

The same rule for every downgrade

The grace-period timeline above isn't special to the add-on: it's how storage works across all of Designer Den. Anything that shrinks your storage limit, whether you cancel an add-on or downgrade from Pro to Free, leads to the same place:

  • Still under your new limit? Nothing happens.
  • Over it? The 14-day grace period starts, with the same email, countdown, and upload block. If you're still over the limit when it ends, your newest files are deleted automatically until you're back under it.

The add-on itself is independent of your plan: keeping Pro doesn't require the add-on, and keeping the add-on doesn't require Pro. Because add-on space still counts after a plan downgrade, keeping one can be exactly what covers your files when your base limit drops. See Managing Your Subscription for everything else a plan downgrade changes.
