Projects

Your project is the central hub for everything about your board game — design details, components, playtests, and exports all live here.

Creating a Project

Step by Step

  1. Click Projects in the navigation
  2. Click + New Project
  3. Enter a project name (required) and any other details you have ready
  4. Click Create Project

You can always come back and fill in details later. The only required field is the project name.

Project Limits

Your plan determines how many projects you can create. Your current usage and limit are shown on the Projects dashboard. Free accounts can create a set number of projects; Pro accounts get unlimited projects. See the Plans page for details.

Project Details & Fields

The project edit form lets you record key information about your game. None of these are required beyond the name, but filling them in helps organize your work and impresses playtesters.

Basic Info

  • Project Name — the game's title (required)
  • Short Description / Tagline — one-line pitch shown in listings
  • Full Description — rich text editor: format rules, pitch, lore, or design notes with headings, lists, links, and images
  • Genre — (e.g., Strategy, Party, Cooperative)

Game Specs

  • Player Count (Min/Max) — displayed as a badge on the project page
  • Playtime (minutes) — estimated play duration
  • Complexity — 1–5 scale
  • Recommended Age — minimum age rating

Artwork

  • Logo URL — displayed centered over the hero section
  • Backdrop URL — banner image behind the hero
  • Both accept public image URLs (Imgur, Google Drive, etc.)

Status & Notes

  • Status — (Concept, In Development, Playtesting, etc.)
  • Design Notes — private designer thoughts, to-do items, or inspirations

Projects Dashboard

The Projects list page is your overview of all games you're working on. At the top it shows four quick stats:

Projects

Your current project count vs. plan limit, with a "remaining" indicator.

Artwork Coverage

Percentage of your components (across all projects) that have image URLs attached. Higher is better for playtesting purposes.

Last Playtested

How long ago your most recent playtest session was logged, across all projects. A good reminder if you haven't tested recently.

Active Rooms

Live count of currently open playtest rooms across all your projects. Pulsing green indicator when rooms are live.

Project Cards

Each project is shown as a card with its logo/backdrop, name, tagline, component count, playtest count, and key stats (players, playtime). Click any card to open the full project page.

The Project Page

Opening a project takes you to its full page. From here you can access every feature tied to the project:

Hero Section

Backdrop image fills the top banner. Logo displays centered over it. Quick-stat badges show player count and playtime below. Action buttons for Edit, Export PDF, and Launch Playtest appear in the action bar.

Overview Tab

Full description, design notes, and project metadata.

Components Tab

All game pieces, organized by type. Add, edit, delete, and view costs.

Playtests Tab

Session history, feedback, and analytics for this project.

Exporting (PDF & CSV)

Export your component list directly from the project page. Two formats are available:

PDF Export Pro Feature

A formatted bill of materials — great for:

  • Printing a physical reference sheet for in-person playtests
  • Sending to manufacturers or co-designers
  • Archiving a snapshot of your component list

Access: Project Page → Export PDF button

CSV Export Pro Feature

Spreadsheet-ready component data — great for:

  • Tracking production quantities in Excel / Google Sheets
  • Importing into other tools
  • Budgeting and cost analysis alongside custom formulas

Access: Project Page → Export CSV button

Note: PDF and CSV exports require a Pro subscription. See Plans & Pricing for details.

The Game Crafter Sync

The Game Crafter is a popular print-on-demand board game manufacturer. If your game is already listed there, you can import all the game details and components directly into your project rather than entering them manually. Requires a paid account.

Importing a Game

  1. Open or create a project → click Edit
  2. In the Import from The Game Crafter panel, click Connect & Import
  3. You'll be taken through The Game Crafter's SSO authorization flow — approve the app
  4. Once authorized, your TGC games are listed — select the one you want to import
  5. The system fetches game metadata and all components, creating entries for each TGC product

Authorization is a one-time step — once approved, future imports and re-syncs won't require you to go through SSO again.

Re-syncing

Once a project is linked to a TGC game, a Re-sync button appears on the edit page. Clicking it pulls updated data from TGC — useful when you've added new components or updated images on The Game Crafter side. The sync shows a progress indicator for larger games.

What Gets Imported

  • Game name and description
  • Game ID linkage (for future syncs)
  • All component types present in the TGC game
  • Component names and quantities
  • Component images from TGC
  • TGC pricing for cost calculations

Organization Tips

Naming

  • Use your game's working title as the project name — you can change it any time
  • Use the tagline field for a quick one-sentence description of the core hook
  • Put work-in-progress notes in Design Notes, not the description

Images

  • Even a rough logo or hand-drawn backdrop makes the project feel real and motivating
  • Backdrop images look best at landscape aspect ratios (16:9 or similar)
  • Check that image URLs are public — private links won't load for others

Multiple Games

  • Create a separate project for each distinct game — don't combine multiple games into one
  • For expansions or variants, create a separate project rather than mixing them together

Staying Organized

  • Use the status field to know at a glance where each game is in development
  • Keep design notes updated — future you will thank present you
  • Document design changes in your Design Notes field before making them
