Saving Game Progress
A campaign does not finish in one sitting. This saves the entire table, hands included, to a file on your own computer, so the same group can come back and carry on where they stopped.
Anyone at the table can do it. That matters most in a session the designer is not attending: the room's host is whoever owns the game, so if they are not there, nobody present can save a setup or take a snapshot. This is how the players keep their own progress.
Note
Saving progress is on by default. A host who does not want it can switch it off in Room Options under Game Progress, and that choice is saved with the setup. The button is named for what it holds: Decks & Progress when personal decks are on too, Game Progress on its own, and it is not in the toolbar at all when everything here is off.
Saving
- Open Decks & Progress in the bottom toolbar.
- Under Save this game, click Save Progress.
- A file downloads to your computer. Keep it somewhere the group can find it again.
The file holds the whole table: every piece and where it sits, zones, snap points, the grid, the table's look, and what every player was holding.
Hands come from the room's own record of who is holding what, not from the computer doing the saving, so a save always reflects the real table. Room options are the host's and are not part of a progress save: the table keeps whatever settings it already has.
Note
The file is sealed. You cannot open it to read what was in anyone's hand, and it cannot be edited: a file that has been changed will not load.
Nothing is stored on your account, and nothing counts against your storage.
Note
You can only save from a table that was opened from a saved setup, because that is what a save loads back into. In a table with no setup the panel says so instead of offering the buttons.
Loading
- Open the same setup the game was saved from. A save only loads back into the setup it came from.
- Open Decks & Progress in the bottom toolbar, click Load Progress, and pick your file.
- You will see what the save contains before anything happens: when it was made, how many pieces, how many hands, and whether any pieces no longer exist.
- Click Ask the table.
The table has to agree
Loading replaces the board for everyone, so it is not one player's decision. Everyone in the room is asked, and all of them have to say yes. Anyone who does not answer within 30 seconds counts as a no, and nothing is loaded.
Players who join after the question is asked are not part of it. They are told the question is happening, but nothing blocks them and they have nothing to answer.
Note
If someone's connection drops during the question, the vote will run out and nothing loads. Ask again once they are back.
Getting hands back
Cards that were in people's hands cannot go straight back, because nothing connects the players in a save to whoever is sitting down now, and a wrong guess would hand someone else's cards over without anyone noticing.
So the room asks. A Pick up your hand panel appears at the top of the sidebar listing each player from the save by name, and how many cards they were holding. Click the line with your name and those cards go into your hand, and nobody else's.
If that sidebar is closed, which it is by default on a phone, a prompt appears above the toolbar instead. Tap it to open the panel.
- The list shows only a name and a number. Nobody can read the cards behind a line they have not claimed.
- Once a line is taken it shows as taken, so two people cannot pick up the same hand.
- Took the wrong one? Not mine takes those cards back out of your hand and frees the line again. It is only offered while you still hold all of them: once one has been played it is on the table, and letting the line go would put a copy of it in someone else's hand.
- Someone missing? Leave their hand unclaimed. It stays in the list all session, so they can still pick it up if they turn up later. Or click To table to deal their cards back into play face down, and do whatever your game says with them.
- Someone new who was not in the save simply starts with an empty hand.
- To table asks you to confirm first, and names whose hand it is. It sits next to This is me and does the opposite, so a misclick should not be able to do it quietly.
- Done with the list? Hide this puts it away for you alone. Everyone else keeps theirs, and the next time a table is restored it comes back.
Between sessions the game may change
A designer keeps working while a campaign is running. If pieces were renamed or replaced since your save, they still come back: a piece is matched by its id, then by its unique id, then by its name.
If a piece was deleted outright it cannot come back, and you are told which ones before the table votes, not after the board has already been replaced. You are also warned when the game has been edited at all since the save was made.
